Don't worry- I WILL NOT PUT YOU ON A MASS-MAILING LIST! I just need this information so I can give you the best possible service :)

What to Expect:
Please note that these are being taken at a park, and that I will have you/your kids running, playing, laying or sitting on the ground- these are NOT stiff studio portraits. This portrait session is meant to capture your family's true, fun, interactive energy. I take pictures in purposeful way that will make for great wall collages, or solo displays- probably by starting off with a basic family portrait, some shots of just the kids, and some of just mom n dad- and anything else we may have time for (i.e. individual shots of the kids- these will only be done IF we have time).
The "look" you want is up to you- just make sure the clothing is washable! :) My #1 suggestion: choose a color palette, and pick out clothing that fits in that palette- you don't have to wear the exact same outfits to make your pictures "look right". In fact, this gives you and your kids the opportunity to wear your own style, while still looking well-coordinated.
If you want a more classic look: keep to neutral colors- browns, grays, whites, etc. and jeans/khakis or skirts
If you want an edgier look: have a solid main color (like black) mixed with a color that "pops" like yellow, turqoise, or red.
If you want a more formal look: flowy skirts/dresses look great with sandals or bare feet, and button-down shirts with top button undone and jeans makes for an easy-going style for the guys while still looking formal.
Try to avoid lots of patterns- if everyone wears plaid, even if it's the exact same, it can get a little overwhelming to look at.

You CAN bring your own props! Balloons, blankets, toys, hats, chairs, books, whatever is special to your family. (You may include your family pet- animals are allowed at this park- there is an extra $20 charge added to your session fee- just please let me know at least 24 hours in advance- and you are responsible for taking care of and restraining your pet- thank you!)

I will have your pictures ready in 2-4 weeks, depending on how many families sign up for the day. Slots will fill up quickly, so contact me as soon as you can! Thank You!

All sizes come with rounded corners for a beautiful finished look, plus a "floating mount" with rubber grips to create a space between the wall and the print. (except for wallet sized prints- you want them to fit inside your wallet, so those are left flat :)

This past week, my son, Josiah, turned three. Almost every day he's been waking up and saying, "Mommy, am I still three today?" Makes me laugh every time :)
So today I taught him how to hold up 3 fingers, and he is SO proud of himself that he can show people how old he is.
I love you, Josiah, and I thank God every day for the miracle that is you.

Kristin and Tony: Southeast Wisconsin Wedding

When I arrived at St. James Catholic church on Saturday, it was raining. Like, really raining. The dark, dreary morning and the weather forecast didn't give me a lot of hope for outdoor pictures, which is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day, and Kristin and Tony had lots of time set aside after the ceremony to make a couple of stops at some beautiful locations. Fortunately, Kristin is the type of bride who will just roll with what is given, and she figured we would make a stop at a nearby gazebo, take a few pictures there, and just be done.
It rained through everyone getting ready, through the ceremony, and through family pictures; but as we packed up my equipment at the church and walked out the door, the clouds literally parted, and the sun shone. And we didn't get any more rain again until the reception began. Talk about the hand of God! The light was soft and dewy, a photographer's dream. Fortunately Kristin's mom made fur wraps for all the gals, so they could stay toasty warm for the outdoor portraits, and it made for a great vintage, classy touch for the bridal party pictures.
A little side note: Kristin did a ridiculous amount of work making ALL of the details for her wedding- from the aisle decorations, to the floral arrangements, and even putting together the center pieces at the reception. This girl knows how to plan!
Kristin and Tony, I had such an amazing time sharing your wedding day with you- I appreciate every moment that we were able to capture!

Dear Sam and Brock~

I cannot say enough how much I appreciate the fact that you had me to shoot your wedding, and that you trusted me enough to invite me to Mexico to do it!
I must say, this was a definite learning experience- doing a destination wedding has it's own set of rules, and I am happy that we were able to just roll with what was thrown our way. Brock, I am SO glad I finally got to meet you, and Sam, I cannot believe how gorgeous you are. Inside and out! You both rock my world!

This was a spot I wanted to get more pictures at. There was another wedding held at this exact spot shortly after I shot this portrait of Brock, so we weren't able to stop back here. Bummer!

Sam and Brock did a "First Look" because we wanted enough time for pictures, since they had a late afternoon ceremony.

Stephanie was ready to be married to Jared, her wonderful, cooky, lovable man. They met because of WLC choir, and on choir tour, decided to take a chance with dating. As their relationship blossomed, it went beyond the silliness and goofiness of their personalities, as Jared's brother said, it transformed into a serious commitment that they promised to love each other, an oath taken before God and their family and friends in their Alma mater of the Wisconsin Lutheran College Chapel.
Thank you to Jared and Stephanie, and to the fantastic people of the bridal party and the parents. Thanks for your confidence in me to capture your wedding day, and sharing a little sneak peak into your lives.

I appreciate the times when I have a little bit of license to challenge my creativity. I have been wanting to do a night-shoot for a while now (partly for the technical aspect of it, mostly cuz I think this dramatic lighting ROCKS. a lot.) Fortunately I have a good friend by the name of Mike Westendorf who is a musician and was looking for new pictures for an upcoming CD release. And I pitched him an idea I had, and he went for it! It's not often that I have the opportunity to photograph a wedding for people I love so much. There was this great little window in the alcove of the main entrance of the church (I used it for the bulletin shot above)- a very small space, but I wanted to get a few portraits of them in there. There was sunlight bouncing off the wall in front of them to illuminate the whole space.

After portraits, we headed to the reception, where these fall arrangements graced each of the tables:

There was no cake....but there were muffins!!!

For the dance, they started with a more traditional slow dance:

and THEN they danced an Irish jig! IT. WAS. AWESOME.

Allison and her dad danced a beautiful slow dance (good thing, too- I think she was a little out of breath from the Irish dancing!)

Mickey and Scott: Appleton Area Wedding

If two people were made to be with each other, it would be Mickey and Scott. High school sweethearts and best friends, they vowed their commitment to each other before God and their family this past Saturday morning.
I love the crisp light of morning, and this day didn't disappoint. The sun shone brightly all day long as the guests enjoyed the outdoor games and potluck reception.
Of course, Mickey looked stunning, and Scott cleaned up nicely :) Two of the most friendly people in the world, I have enjoyed every minute with them, with the camera and without- I am looking forward to a lasting friendship with these two!

We entered her room at the hotel, where she was calmly sitting and eating a light lunch, laughing with her best friends about memories and what to expect in the coming hours. The light glowed softly around her, making her look angelic and peaceful. Angela was happy- happy to be marrying her best friend, Tom. They had been friends for over 12 years, and last year they reconnected at a mutual friend's wedding. And the rest, as they say, is history. God's hand is evident in their lives- how they met, how they reconnected, and how they proved their love to each other in front of their friends and family.
Angela and Tom, I feel so fortunate to have met you, worked with you, and shared one of the most important moments in your lives. Have a happy honeymoon :)

I know I have said several times to family and friends that I just feel SO blessed to not only be doing what I love, but to share what I love with some of the most incredible people. Katie and Geoff are two such people that I feel more fulfilled by knowing them. They exude such kindness to everyone they touch, and complement each other so completely that it is no wonder that they are best friends- and now husband and wife.
I am also blown away by the gorgeous weather we have been given this summer- even though we had rain and thunder this morning, it cleared away to one of the most beautiful summer days we have experienced yet here in SE Wisconsin in 2011. Clear skies, 75 degrees, and a light breeze off of Lake Michigan kept things a little more comfortable than what we have had the past few weeks.

Today is Friday, and Fridays are my Josiah Day. We usually do something outside the house together, and since today is SO beautiful, I decided to go on a little excursion to the park, where we went running around chasing butterflies and picking up sticks. And, since it has been a very long time since I took pictures of my little boy, I brought my camera along.
Josiah, I love you, Buddy! I had SO. MUCH. FUN. We'll have to do this again soon :)

Workin' it :Wedding Day behind-the-scenes

It's always fun for me to see what pictures my assistant gets- since we are not next to each other 100% of the time, I don't realize that I may be victim....I mean "subject" to getting my picture taken, too. My hubby worked this weekend's wedding with me, and he really was pretty sneaky with his shots. I only caught him once taking my picture, and that was when I just happened to glance his direction while waiting for the first dance to start.
I think he does this cuz, well, it's fun to take pictures- but deep down inside it's revenge. Because Jonathan does NOT like having his picture taken. And yet I use him (in a good way) to get my shots set up. He's my test model.
See? He looks thrilled!

So, of course, he gets me back by taking oh-so flattering pictures of me at work.
